America's most complex and relied-upon electric grid is in transition towards a decarbonized future, balancing new sources of clean energy with increasing dependence on the grid to electrify buildings, transportation, and more. The millions of electric vehicles (EVs) around the country have untapped potential as a key, flexible resource to support the changing grid and save — or even earn — money by doing so.

Join Us to Build the Market for Vehicle-Grid Integration
VGIC is accelerating the decarbonization of transportation and the grid through state-level regulatory and policy advocacy, education, and market development. Our members include automakers, electric vehicle service providers, technology providers, and others. The VGIC staff brings deep techno-regulatory experience, a collaborative approach with policymakers across the nation, and expertise in effective stakeholder engagement and market development.
“With a focus on some of the transportation electrification movement’s most critical issues, VGIC’s combination of subject matter expertise and regulatory acumen make it one of the most important advocacy group in the industry. VGIC-led policy reviews provide members with detailed accounts of key procedural developments, and ongoing advocacy efforts provide a well-structured forum for industry collaboration. In the rapidly evolving vehicle-to-grid integration space, VGIC’s insights and strategic leadership efforts are indispensable to industry participants.”
“In the work of electrification of transport, it is vital to have shared standards and a fiscal regime that monetizes EVs as energy storage assets, in this regard, VGIC is central to accelerating this important evolution of the energy market.”
In addition to policy and regulatory advocacy, VGIC membership provides opportunities for business development and education alongside leading experts and organizations from the electric and transportation sectors.
Drivers in every state will be able to synchronize their vehicle charging with the times of day when electricity prices are low, reducing operating costs by 50% over unmanaged charging*.

During extreme weather blackouts or other power outages, EVs can utilize two-way charging and discharging capabilities to send energy to a building or home, serving as a generator and providing safe backup power.
Smarter management of electric vehicle charging will avoid costly utility infrastructure build out, which reduces the cost burden on electricity customers overall.
Vehicle-to-grid, or V2G, will enable electric vehicles to both receive and feed power back to the grid, supporting advanced grid services such as frequency control, demand response, peak shaving, and more. Providing these services to the grid can unlock new revenue streams for EVs, lowering the total cost of ownership.
VGIC is Working State-By-State to Unlock the Benefits of VGI Today
Electric utility rates, EV programs and incentives, and rules for achieving interconnection to the grid to provide services are regulated and differ from state to state. VGIC advocates for our members in key policy forums around the country, including public utility commissions, to build the market.
